Monday mornings always come with far to much hast, leaving my busy weekend in the past. This weekend, however, I was fortunate enough to participate in Sycamore Street Press Workshop. Perhaps it was just being in Heber City, Utah that day or just because it was sorta the first official snow of the year, but regardless there was something magical in the air. A great anticipation to spend the afternoon with a great studio, great people & great fun.
I arrived a bit early to be happily greeted by both Eva and her husband Kirk who were FANTASTIC teachers. They were fun, enthusiastic and filled the class with knowledge and life. They started with the basic low-down on Letterpress, (which if you don’t know anything about Letterpress I highly recommend giving them a ring.) Shortly after everyone got the gist of the process and there were no questions…we dove right in. Pairs of two were working on the press while the rest of us made envelope liners for our cards. Time flew by, and it was nice to mingle with the other Letterpress-ers in the class. Especially when you find out one of the girls grew up where I went to collage back east, and the other one knows one of the VP’s at my current job. Really, who would have thought?!
Next came my partner and I’s turn ( Thanks Amanda! ) to letterpress our cards. I admit, I was a bit nervous since I have never been on the actual press side of the design world. Let me clarify, I have never been the one that had control over the press for my own or anyone else designs. This was a new step! And frankly I was like, Bring it on! Kirk was great at reassuring me I wasn’t going to break there press, and before I knew it my 50 cards were done and I proudly checked “Letterpress Anything” off my to do list.
So in the end I walked away happy, fulfilled & excited to call on Sycamore Street Press to help me out with some of my own design ideas. It was a wonderful time, one I would recommend to ANYONE who is adventurous enough to learn, do and meet some great new people! Special thanks to Eva and Kirk for being wonderful teachers and giving us all a magical time!
